The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (PCB) has sought the cooperation of the public and fireworks traders in implementing safety regulations on the use of pyrotechnics during the Vishu festival.

The sale and use of crackers with decibel level higher than 125 Db have been banned. This includes firecrackers in the form of clusters, necklace and those that burst on impact.

Bursting of crackers has been banned from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. No crackers are to be used in an area within 100 m around hospitals, courts, educational institutions and places of worship.

Visual appeal

A press note issued by the PCB here on Tuesday called on the public to avoid bursting crackers in narrow streets and to use fireworks that create a visual appeal rather than sound.
