Crowds throng ‘Chempeduppu’ ceremony

The annual ‘Chempeduppu’ ceremony at the St. George Orthodox Church (Valiyapalli) at Chandanappally was held with religious fervour on Monday.

Thousands of faithful attended the ritualistic ‘Chempeduppu Raasa’ procession held in the afternoon.

A holy Tri-mass was held at the church in the morning. Kuriakose Mar Cleemis, Metropolitan of the Thumpamon diocese; Mathews Mar Savarios Metropolitan and Geevarghese Mar Eulios Metropolitan led the Holy Tri-mass.

Former Supreme Court judge Cyriac Joseph inaugurated the pilgrims’ meet held at the church premises, later, in the forenoon.

Veena George, MLA; Biju Oommen, Malankara Association secretary; Fr M.O.John, clergy trustee, George Paul, lay trustee, and Rev Kurien Varghese Corepiscopa were felicitated on the occasion.

The ‘raasa’ procession culminated at the church, marking the grand finale of the annual festival, later, in the evening.
