CPI(M) stance criticised

CMP faction deplores denial of seats

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The faction of the Communist Marxist Party (CMP) led by K.R. Aravindakshan has criticised the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for denying his party a deserving number of seats for the local body polls.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, CMP Polit Bureau member and district secretary G. Sugunan accused the CPI(M) of failing to uphold political decency in the seat-sharing exercise with the constituent parties of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and those who offered outside support to the coalition.

“While the United Democratic Front (UDF) had offered us 19 seats in the district, including one each in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the district panchayat in the 2010 elections, the LDF has reserved just two seats for the party in the district, one each in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation and the Attingal municipality,” he said.

The CPI(M) then went on to field its own candidate in the seat allotted to the CMP in Attingal. “The CPI(M) has asked us to field their candidate as ours in the seat. They have betrayed our trust,” he said. — Staff Reporter
