CPI(M) makes it official

The CPI(M) State leadership has formally announced that former Speaker M. Vijayakumar will be its candidate in the Aruvikkara Assembly by-election.

The CPI(M) State committee said in brief statement after a meeting of the party State secretariat here on Friday that Mr. Vijayakumar would contest the seat that had been allotted to it by the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF)

The LDF State committee is meeting here on Sunday to discuss its strategy for the by-election.

Interacting with the media after he was formally named the candidate, Mr. Vijayakumar said he saw it as a major political mission and the Aruvikkara by-election would signal a major political change in the State.
