The city Corporation will soon stop the issuing of birth, death, and marriage certificates in stamp papers from its office here. City residents can download them from a link on the Corporation’s website – www. corporationoftrivandrum.in through a software developed by the Information Kerala Mission (IKM).
Though the birth, death, and marriage registrations in the local body from 1995 were digitised three years ago, many still queue up at the counter at the Corporation office to get one which they believe to be ‘more authentic.’ Since the Corporation has been issuing the certificates in ₹10 stamp papers, many departments have been insisting on it.
“Several schools, the passport department, police department and others often ask for certificates in stamp paper. Part of the blame has to go to the Corporation too, as we are still issuing these. Now, we will stop issuing them. Kozhikode Corporation has already done this. The Corporation has written to departments that the online print-outs from our website is sufficient. We will organise a campaign about the online facility before stopping issue of certificates,” said a Corporation official. Residents can now print the certificates from their homes or at Akshaya centres.
“People need to approach the section only if they need to make corrections. They need to just drop the documents at the office. Once the records are updated, they can print them. Those seeking records before 1995 also will need to come to the office, as the digitising is ongoing. But, most requests are for documents from recent years,” said the official.
