The Attukal Pongala day is one day on which all the complaints regarding waste management in the city Corporation area vanishes.

The sanitation workers of the local body put in long hours of work to ensure that the residents wake up to a clean city the next morning. Friday was no different as 3,100 sanitation workers spread out across the city, cleaning up every nook and corner.

The work started as soon as the Pongala was over. Young students of architecture began collecting the bricks for a series of art installations under the aegis of the Indian Institute of Architects in tribute to architect Laurie Baker whose 100th birth anniversary falls on March 2. The absence of plastic cups and plates in most areas made the task of the sanitation workers easier.

Out of the 3,100 workers, 1,600 are permanent workers of the local body and the rest were appointed temporarily for the Pongala waste management.
