Curtains will go up on the second edition of the International Children’s Film Festival of Kerala (ICFFK) on Friday. Minister for Culture A.K. Balan will inaugurate the festival at Tagore Theatre at 2 p.m.
Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran will be the chief guest. Minister for Social Justice K.K. Shylaja will preside over the function.
The Kerala State Council for Child Welfare is organising the festival.
Festival song
The theme song for the festival Varna varna pookkal... was released by musician Perumbavoor G. Ravindranath on Thursday. Sung and composed by singer Rajalakshmi, the song has been written by Joy Thamalam and shot by R.S. Vimal.
Mr. Ravindranath said those who could sing and those learning music should compose music as it required no special training and only then could new tunes be gifted to new generations. “Music composition is a cakewalk if a person has knowledge of music.”
Ms. Rajalakshmi sang a song composed by Mr. Ravindranath which was received enthusiastically by the participants of the child welfare council’s Kilikoottam summer camp.
Festival kit
The festival kit for delegates was released by actor Sudheer Karamana by handing it over to Ananthan, a differently abled class 10 student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, and recipient of this year’s Bal Shree award
The week-long ICFFK will see 144 movies, ranging from new ones to classics, being screened, council general secretary Deepak S.P. said. Kairali, Sree, Nila, Kalabhavan, Tagore Theatre, and Nishagandhi will be the venues.
There will be a public screening at Nishagandhi and Tagore Theatre each evening.
Delegates
Over 5,000 children have registered for the festival (https://www.icffk.com) Society’s responsibility towards children’s safety is the ICFFK’s theme this year.
The focus of this year’s festival will be on marginalised children.
Children from tribal settlements and child care institutions will be delegates at the festival.
