Central Stadium being readied for swearing-in

Preparations are under way at the Central Stadium for Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony of Pinarayi Vijayan as the 22nd Chief Minister of Kerala. The event will see a convergence of thousands of Left cadres from across the State to the venue.

The stadium behind the State Secretariat is being readied for the gala swearing-in by various wings of the Public Works Department.

The civil wing of the department is in the final stage of constructing a massive pandal, which could accommodate around 35,000 people, including cadres, Polit Bureau members, political party leaders, personalities from various walks of life, and officials.

“We have been told to arrange 35,000 seats. A final decision will be taken on Tuesday whether to provide a roof cover to the entire area where the seats are provided.

The gallery of the stadium is also being readied to accommodate the party activists,” an official with Public Works Department told The Hindu .

A separate stage is also being set up next to the podium to host a music show before the swearing-in of Mr. Vijayan along with the Cabinet Ministers.

Four giant LED screens, two inside the stadium and the other two outside, will be set to relay live images of the ceremony.

There are also talks of an LED screen being set up at Gandhi Park to beam images of the swearing-in function.

The PWD has estimated the cost to be around Rs.17 lakh.
