Case registered for bid to organise beef festival

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:53 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Valiyathura police have registered a case against 30 activists of the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) for attempting to hold a beef festival on the Shangumugham Beach on Sunday.

The police said the organisers of the event had not taken permission for holding an event on the spot as per norms.

They did not have permission to use loudspeakers or speakers either, the police said.

Dadri lynching

The activists had set up tables on the beach around 4.30 p.m. for the ‘beef festival’, which they claimed was in protest against the Dadri lynching.

The police stepped in immediately and prevented the festival from taking off.

Let off

The activists were first taken into custody after they attempted to go ahead with the event, and later let off after the case was registered.

SIO supporters later took out a protest march to the Valiyathura police station, which was dispersed by the police before it turned violent.
