The Kazhcha Film Forum, a film society formed by a group of youngsters, after making attempts to produce serious non-commercial movies, has now shouldered the responsibility of taking such movies to the grassroots.

The forum on Saturday rolled out a vehicle that will tour the State for the next four months to screen ‘Oraalppokam,’ a film produced by the forum with online contribution from the public. In the coming days, the vehicle will travel across the State and with the assistance of local volunteers will screen the movie in public places after collecting a nominal amount from the audience.

Flagging off the vehicle here, film-maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan lauded the people behind the initiative for producing a movie through public funding and taking it to the masses. The venture, he said, was the second attempt in the State after John Abraham produced ‘Amma Ariyan,’ through public participation. The initiative, he said would encourage more people to join the movement to produce movies through public participation. Sanilkumar Sashidharan, director of the movie, said aim of the forum was not just to create an alternative distribution system for serious movies, but also to provide a platform for the public to view such movies and to create a network of organisations in the State to propagate non-commercial movies. The movie would be screened in remote areas with the participation of libraries, youth organisations and film clubs in educational institutions.
