Call to make postal ballots available in time

October 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:05 am IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

Arrangements should be made to make postal ballot papers available in advance to those on election duty so that all of them can exercise their franchise, Communist Party of India (Marxist) district unit secretary Kadakampally Surendran has said.

“The applications for ballot papers have not been made available to the employees who are selected for election duty even after the first round of training programmes. When they apply for ballot papers after the consecutive holidays, arrangements should be made to send them the papers immediately,” he said in a press release here.

“If the respective returning officers send the ballot papers to those residing in Corporations and municipalities, it can be ensured that everyone gets it. But the situation is more complicated in grama panchayats. If arrangements are not made to send the three ballot papers for district panchayat, block panchayat and grama panchayat, the employees will not be able to exercise their franchise,” he said.
