Bus travel to be made easier for the differently abled

The government will soon hold a meeting to work out a system to ensure safe and easy travel for the differently abled in buses of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

Mr. Chandy told presspersons after a Cabinet meeting here on Wednesday that in the wake of the accident that claimed the lives of two visually challenged people, Rajesh and Vinod, at the Thrissur KSRTC bus stand recently, Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had placed a set of proposals before the Cabinet. The Cabinet decided to involve the Ministers for Transport, Home, Public Works Department, and Social Justice to work out a system to make travel easy for the differently abled.

The Cabinet decided to sanction Rs.3 lakh each to the families of the dead, and a job for Sreeja, widow of Rajesh.

The KSRTC would give financial assistance to Satheesan who sustained injuries in the accident.
