Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) in the State is setting up rooftop solar power plants of 505 kWP capacity on its buildings, with the first being commissioned at Manacaud here.

P.T. Mathew, Chief General Manager Telecom, BSNL Kerala, inaugurated a grid interactive solar power plant of 65 kWp capacity on BSNL’s administrative building at Manacaud recently. BSNL principal general manager S.S. Thampi and senior chief engineer (Electrical) S.H. Govindraddi were present.

Solar power plants on 12 other BSNL buildings across the State will also be commissioned this month.

Eventually, BSNL plans to scale this up to set up solar plants of 2,000 kWp capacity on rooftops of its telephone exchanges across the State.

The array of 505 kWP solar power plants can generate around 7.4 lakh units of pollution-free electricity a year. This, in turn, will bring down carbon emissions by 600 tonnes.
