BSNL contract workers’ forum to go on hunger strike

The BSNL Casual Contract Labour Union (CCLU), affiliated to the CITU, will be organising a hunger strike in front of the GPO on Tuesday from 10 a.m., in protest against the Central government and the BSNL management for non-payment of wages to contract workers over the past seven months.

Contract workers of BSNL as well as their families will participate in the hunger strike.

Contract workers

The contract workers have been organising a protest in front of the BSNL Chief General Manager’s office at PMG for the past 79 days.

The BSNL management has taken the stand that they cannot pay the wages unless funds are allocated from Delhi.

In a press release issued here on Monday, the BSNL CCLU working president K. Mohanan alleged that the non-payment of wages was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party government’s agenda to destroy public sector institutions.

Aiding corporates

The Central government was rolling out carpets for corporates while viewing the workers as enemies, he said.
