A solo exhibition by artist Shajith R. B. is capturing eyeballs at the Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan here. Titled ‘Real Myth’, the exhibition organised by the Kerala Lalithakala Academy offers a visual treat for lovers of contemporary art.
Watercolour
Shajith uses watercolour on paper to reconnect with his childhood and express his deep emotional attachment to his home town of Malapattam in Kannur.
The artist says he was influenced by Indian miniatures and the paintings of Paul Gauguin and David Hockney.
Each painting stands out on its own and can be treated in its own singularity and at the same time as a part of a series as well. The series titled ‘Lover’ highlights the raw beauty of Nature and the various facets of village life in India.
The artist makes minimal use of colour to illustrate pristine landscapes, mundane rural life and coexistence in nature.
The girl who appears in many of his paintings symbolises victimhood, posited in distress and trepidation. Each work took him almost two hours to complete.
Awards
The exhibition here goes on up to October 18. Shajith has been awarded the Kerala Lalithakal Akademi State Award in 2015 and 2018 and gold medal in 2015.
His upcoming solo exhibitions are to be conducted in June 2020 in Mumbai and August 2020 in Chile.
