Bank staff strike today

February 28, 2017 09:57 am | Updated 09:57 am IST - Kozhikode

More than 40,000 bank employees across the State are expected to stay off work on Tuesday as part of a nationwide strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU).

Employees and officers of public sector banks, old-generation private-sector banks, foreign banks, Kerala Gramin Bank, and cooperative banks, excluding primary service societies, will go on strike.

C.D. Josson, State convener of the UFBU, told The Hindu that thousands of bank branches would remain shuttered. The strike was to resist the ‘anti-people and anti-employee’ banking reforms being carried out by the Centre.
