Abhayarthi , a short film made by a collective of employees of the Poojappura Central Jail, will be screened at the Nila Theatre on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Jail DGP T.P. Senkumar will inaugurate the screening. The story of the film is inspired from the deportation of the natives of Diego Garcia, an island in the Indian Ocean, which is a key military base of the United States. The film starts from the assumption that one of those families might have travelled all the way to Kerala and might have settled here. It traces the attempts made by the son of that family to go back to the island and find his parents who had gone back there to fight for its independence.

Central Jail Superintendent Sam Thankayyan plays a key role in Abhayarthi . Assistant Prison Officer Najimuddeen plays the protagonist Franklin’s role. The story, screenplay, and direction of the film are by Assistant Prison Officer Ajith Poojappura. — Staff Reporter
