Art as a bridge between two nations

As many as 27 paintings are on view at the exhibition.

India and China found themselves on the same colourful page in the State capital on Wednesday with Minister for Cultural Affairs K.C. Joseph inaugurating an exhibition of paintings which were the outcome of an art residency for women painters in China recently.

27 paintings

The exhibition, titled ‘Maitri,’ was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as a follow-up to the art residency held by ICCR with support from the Shanghai Women’s Federation (SWF) and Shanghai People’s Association for People's Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFCC).

As many as 27 paintings are on view at the exhibition.

ICCR regional officer Madhur Kankana Roy said the exhibition was being organised in different parts of India as part of efforts to improve mutual understanding between Indians and the Chinese.

This travelling exhibition, she said, would cover Goa, Chennai, and Hyderabad.

Dominant colour

The paintings celebrate the culture of the two nations, yellow being one of the dominant colours.

The paintings are all about women speaking, about their respective nations as also about the nations.

The exhibition, on at the K.C.S. Panicker Art Gallery in the Museum Grounds would continue till June 15.
