Arrangements in place for bali

The district administration and temple committees have completed all arrangements for the conduct of the ‘balitharpanam’ rites on the occasion of Karkidaka vavu bali on Wednesday.

In view of the heavy depletion of the Shanghumughom beach, the district authorities have once again advised people against offering ‘bali’ there.

Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran, who inspected the arrangements at the Thiruvallam Sree Parasurama temple and at Shanghumughom, said that the facilities were all in place at the temples run by the Travancore Devaswom Board, including Varkala Janardhana Swamy Temple, Aruvikkara, Thirumullavaram, Aluva and Thiruvallam.

The Minister took stock of the situation at Shanghumughom where sand deposits had formed a new shore close to the depleted area.

Better facilities

In view of the situation, steps have been taken to enhance facilities at other centres in the district where bali is offered. Three additional ‘mandapams’ have been arranged at Thiruvallam, where 3,000 devotees will be able to conduct the ritual simultaneously.

District Collector K. Gopalakrishnan has urged devotees to exercise caution while entering bathing ghats. He said the facilities for offering the ritual at Shanghumughom were limited on account of sea erosion. Devotees would not be permitted to bathe in the sea or cross the barricades.

The Kerala Police have put in place tight security measures. As many as 520 personnel led by six Assistant Commissioners and two Superintendents of Police have been deployed at Shanghumughom and Thiruvallam. Besides, there will be 60 women police officers and shadow police team.

Green protocol

Green protocol will be strictly implemented in all ritual centres. Paper cups and plates, plastic bottles, styrofoam items, aluminium foil, plastic covers, and carry bags must be avoided. The KSRTC will conduct additional services .
