The police, on Tuesday, arrested a couple on charges of illicit brewing of liquor and seized five litres of arrack and over 100 litres of wash from their house at Kazhivoor near Kanjiramkulam.

Equipment seized

N. Jayakumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Neyyattinkara, said Rosilam alias Shashi and his wife Beena were nabbed red-handed while they were distilling hooch in a specially set up area near the kitchen. Gas cylinders and other equipment used to make the illegal brew were also seized from them.

Three-storey house

The couple were well off, Mr. Jayakumar said, living in their own three-storey house and thus giving no room for suspicion about their bootlegging activities.

The duo, arrested by a team led by Mr. Jayakumar, Kanjiramkulam sub inspector Shantakumar, grade SI Silvester, ASI Sashidharan and civil police officers Suresh Kumar and Radha, were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
