All arrangements have been completed for polling in the district, District Collector K. Vasuki has said.
She was addressing a press meet in connection with the poll arrangements in the Thiruvananthapuram and Attingal Lok Sabha constituencies at the Collectorate here on Saturday. Dr. Vasuki who is also the District Electoral Officer said training for poll officials had been completed.
Security arrangements had also been made by the district police chief for Thiruvananthapuram city and rural.
Sensitive booths
There were 738 sensitive and 97 vulnerable booths in the district, but no hypersensitive or critical booths.
While Central police forces would be deployed in vulnerable booths, micro-observers would be posted in 129 sensitive booths and webcasting done in 132 sensitive booths.
The Collector stressed that only people whose names are on the electoral roll can vote. In case, voters did not have Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC), alternative ID documents were valid. These included passport, driving licence, photo ID cards issued by Union and State governments and public sector units, PAN card, bank or post office’s pass book with photo, Aadhaar card, MGNREGS job card, Labour department’s health insurance smart card, pension documents with photo and so on.
Voter slip
Distribution of voter slip was almost over. In case of any complaints, voters could call the Election Commission’s voter helpline 1950, she said.
Of the 13,000 differently abled voters in the district, vehicles to reach polling stations had been sought by 2,600.
Arrangements had been made to pick up and drop them off. They would be accompanied by helpers, she said. On the LDF’s allegation of rigging of voter list in the Nemom assembly constituency, Dr. Vasuki said prima facie it had been found that there was an error in the filling-up of application forms. All the 15 voters of a particular booth were residents of the area, did not belong to the same family, and had separate ration cards.
Election guide
District Collector released an election guide brought out by the District Information Office by handing it over to Assistant Collector Priyanka G.
The guide has complete details of the district related to the general elections such as voters in the district, polling booths, distribution centres, details of VVPAT and so on.
Ms Priyanka said that 600 volunteers would be deployed in booths as part of the green election observance. The volunteers, from the National Service Scheme, would ensure that no plastic reached the polling booths.
