The Cantonment police have arrested a Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist on the charge of trespassing into the office of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at the Secretariat here on Thursday.

The police said DYFI State secretariat member P.N. Harikumar, 40, took a pass from the front office of the Secretariat and entered the block housing the Chief Minister's office. The police said he shouted slogans in front of Mr. Chandy's office and attempted to barge into it.

Secretariat security staff overpowered him and handed him over to the Cantonment police. Mr. Harikumar was protesting against the decision to raise the pension age for government employees.

V. Sivankutty, MLA, arrived at the police station and accused the police of manhandling Harikumar. The police released Harikumar on bail.

The DYFI later admitted him to the General Hospital.
