The Association of Kerala Government College Teachers has come out in protest against the appointment of a senior administrative officer as acting director of collegiate education.
A press note issued here said the practice till now was to give charge to a deputy director. However, the government had overlooked past practices to give charge to an officer who was ranked below a deputy director.
Now, this official would have administrative authority over officers who were above him in rank, the press note said.
Till the United Democratic Front government came to power, only IAS officers and senior college teachers used to be given the charge of director.
Earlier this year, when the deputy director, Ernakulam, retired from service, the government instead of giving charge to the senior principal handed over charge to an administrative officer.
If the government did not roll back its decision and hand over charge of director to a deputy director, it would have to face strong agitations, the press note warned. — Special
