With the hitherto neglected pre-primary education sector in the State set for a revamp, especially with the Samagra Shiksha extending its activities from preschool to Class 12, preparation of academic master plans for pre-primary schools is set to get under way.
Owing to paucity of funds, the master plan preparation will initially be undertaken in 30 schools in each district to raise them into model institutions. The focus will be on learning through play and activities, instead of using textbooks.
The Samagra Shiksha, Thiruvananthapuram, had earlier conducted a training programme for five representatives - head teacher, teacher, two PTA representatives, and one education activist or worker of the area concerned - from 30 select schools in the district to introduce them to academic master plans and how to implement them.
The academic master plans that emerged at the end of the training were consolidated, and activities that could be implemented in preprimary schools were drawn up.
Two-day workshop
At a two-day workshop beginning at the Manvila training centre on Tuesday, various models such as science or music or reading or painting corners based on the activities already drawn up will be introduced to the participants. Material for these activities and models will be developed as part of the master plan preparation for each of the 30 schools.
Specialist teachers
Specialist teachers will attend the workshop for development of material for firming students’ concepts. Participants comprising the head teacher and one teacher of each school will also be exposed to international models of preschools.
After a detailed plan is submitted to the Samagra Shiksha, funds to the tune of ₹1 lakh for each school will be handed over, Samagra Shiksha, Thiruvananthapuram, district project officer B. Sreekumaran said.
