A dance museum will open its doors to the public at Vattiyurkavu here on Friday. The 42,000-sq ft museum, located at the Guru Gopinath Natanagramam that functions under the Culture Department, is built to international standards, and aims at providing information on Indian dance forms.
The three-storey building will have 10 galleries, of which one will be on foreign dances. The other components include a research centre with a digitalised library, a 5D effects dts theatre, seminar hall, auditorium with modern facilities, permanent stage, and documentation hall. The inauguration of the 5D theatre will be held later.
One gallery will be dedicated to Guru Gopinath and Kerala Nadanam.
There will also be a wax gallery in which 10-odd wax statues of renowned performerswill be displayed.
The museum will have sculptures of various dance forms, complete with their costumes and jewellery.
Each gallery will have an e-library that visitors can access with the aid of audio-visual aids for detailed information on the galleries and displays. Kiosks with touch screens have been installed. The digital library will be of particular help to students of dance and those pursuing PhD.
The Union government’s contribution in the museum project is Rs.6 crore and that of the State Rs.5 crore. The Nadanagramam will chip in with Rs.1 crore. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the museum at 5.30 p.m. on Friday..
