Activists of student organisations took out a mass demonstration to the Kerala Law College Law Academy here on Monday during a sitting of the Syndicate of University of Kerala.
Activists of the Kerala Students Union (KSU), All India Students Federation (AISF), Muslim Students Federation (MSF) and Campus Front took out a joint march alleging that the State government and the varsity authorities supported the Kerala Law Academy Law College management in concealing their purported irregularities.
As the demonstrators reached the main gate of the university, they were blocked by a large police posse. However, the police were unaware of the presence of a few activists who had sneaked into the premises before the demonstration had commenced. The police took them into custody when they raised slogans in support of the stirl.
The agitators who had gathered outside refused to disperse. The police used water cannons twice as the activists threatened to disrupt the unhindered flow of vehicles passing by the Aasan Square along the busy stretch. Tension mounted with the most of the protesters, barring those of the AISF, deciding to stick to their position until the outcome of the Syndicate meeting was known. Soon after the two-hour-long discussions came to an end, the activists barged into the premises by pushing open the main gate. The attempts made by the protesters to enter the main building were thwarted. The students later held a demonstration in front of the building.
