SHRC seeks details of Vallakadavu bridge

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has asked the government to submit details of the measures being considered to strengthen the Vallakadavu bridge that is reported to be in a dilapidated state.

The Commission’s acting chairperson P. Mohandas has sought explanation from the District Collector, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineer, and the Executive Engineer, Public Works Department.

Petition

The Vallakadavu Bridge Samrakshana Samithy has petitioned the commission that the bridge that connects Shanghumughom, Valiathura, and Beemapally is in a bad shape.

Hundreds of lorries and trucks and over 35 educational institution buses move daily through the bridge.

Suggestions

The Public Works Department has admitted that the bridge is in danger, the samithy has informed the commission. It has demanded that the vehicular traffic through the bridge across the Parvathy Puthanar canal be stopped and the bridge be reconstructed.
