The Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology (SCTIMST) is setting up a comprehensive Centre for Cognitive Rehabilitation of Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders as part of its expansion plans for its paediatric neurology wing.
The proposed centre is a collaborative venture of SCTIMST and the National Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), Thiruvananthapuram and is being set up in association with the Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, a public charitable trust of Federal Bank Ltd.
MoU signed
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Director of SCTIMST Asha Kishore and Raju Hormis, Head, CSR, Federal Bank, on January 13 here. As part of its enduring commitment to children with special needs, the Foundation will donate ₹2,19,94,367 towards the initial establishment of the centre, which will be done in two phases spanning over a period of 5 years, an official release issued by the SCTIMST said.
The proposed centre aims to provide comprehensive management for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
In phase I, sensory integration room, individual therapy rooms and paediatric physiotherapy unit will be established at the SCTIMST and in Phase II, a sensory park and sensory room will be constructed at NISH.
The centre will cater to the medical and rehabilitative needs of children with various neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactive disorders, cerebral palsy, and dyslexia.
