Law Academy students pay homage to Jabbar

February 10, 2017 12:58 am | Updated 12:58 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Students of the Kerala Law Academy Law College, fresh from their victory in their 29-day long agitation, on Thursday visited the house of Abdul Jabbar of Manacaud, who collapsed and died while witnessing the struggle a few days ago.

Representatives of the students’ organisations and some of the hostellers paid last respects to the 73-year-old who suffered cardiac arrest as he witnessed the suicide attempt of a student and the subsequent clash that had occurred outside the college at Peroorkada. Later in the day, a commemorative function was also organised in memory of Abdul Jabbar in Manacaud. KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran took part.

The students celebrated the first morning after the conclusion of their agitation at the official residence of Agriculture Minister V.S. Sivakumar, where they were invited for breakfast. The students thanked the Minister for the crucial role he played in resolving the issue.

To visit Jishnu’s house

V.G. Vivek, a student leader, said they also planned to visit the house of the late Jishnu Pranoy at Nadapuram, Kozhikode. In fact, it was the denial of permission to protest against Jishnu’s death that had sparked the agitation at the Law Academy.
