Immunisation survey

Government to conduct survey in State schools

June 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:45 pm IST - Thiruvananthapuram:

The government has decided to conduct a detailed survey seeking details of immunisation status of children in schools across the State.

Following a directive of the Commission for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, which had expressed serious concern about the falling immunisation rates amongst children in certain districts, the General Education Department has now issued a circular to all DEOs and DDEs to conduct a survey in schools and to collect details about the immunisation status of all students.

Commission chairperson Sobha Koshy said the government needed to address the issue of low immunisation status of children in certain districts in the State because denying vaccination to a child was a violation of the child’s right to health.“We will seek the help of local bodies and the Health Department to find out the situation, and once it is done, suitable changes will be made,” said Education Minister
