Tamil actor Pasupathi on Thursday said he did not aspire to become a `star’ and always stay in the limelight, but would be happy if people called him a good actor.
“I am trained to be an actor. I don’t want to be a star or stay at that level. I will be satisfied if viewers judge me as a good actor,” Pasupathi said at a meet-the-press programme held here in connection with the release of Malayalam film `Vairam’ in which he plays a central role.
The actor said he was initially hesitant to dub for his role in `Vairam,’ but managed with the support of film’s crew.
“Even now I am not comfortable with Malayalam. When you see the film, you will understand whether I have spoken Malayalam or spoken Malayalam in Tamil. I have put in maximum effort for the dubbing,” he said.
To a question, he said the commercial film field in both Tamil and Malayalam was churning out some very good movies with solid, realistic storylines. The making of films would change with the times, he said citing the example of `Subramaniapuram’ which set off a trend in Tamil.
Pasupathi said he was attracted by the story of `Vairam’ and would act in more Malayalam films if good offers came his way. He had earlier done a small role in the Malayalam film `Big B.’
Stating that Theatre was his first love, Pasupathi said he was not getting enough time to do plays now. “Definitely I will do Theatre when I get a chance,” he said.
The film’s director M. A. Nishad described Pasupathi as a versatile actor. The female lead in the film Dhanya Mary Varghese was also present.
