Durai Murugan undergoes treatment following chest pain

Tamil Nadu Minister for Law and Senior DMK leader, Durai Murugan was admitted to a private hospital in the city in the early hours of Tuesday following complaints of chest pain.

The 72-year-old DMK leader who had been admitted to the Intensive Cardiac Care Unit of the private hospital is out of danger, a spokesman of the hospital said.

Mr. Durai Murugan, who was part of the entourage of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunandhi’s two day visit to the adjoining Kanyakumari district, complained of chest pain and uneasiness while staying in a hotel in the beach resort of Kovalam.

Immediately, he was rushed in an ambulance to the hospital and was attended to by the Chief Cardiac Surgeon, Dr. Vijayaraghavan.

A team of doctors are monitoring the DMK leader. “There is no need for anxiety. His vital parameters are okay and he is likely to be discharged within one hour,” the spokesperson of the hospital said.

Kerala’s Minister for Home and Tourism, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited the hospital and called on the DMK leader.

Hospital sources said the DMK leader is likely to fly to Chennai later in the day. Mr. Karunanidhi left for Chennai from here around 10:30 a.m.
