A driver attached to taxi aggregator Uber was allegedly manhandled near Kovalam late on Saturday.

The victim, Anu, 34, of Mudavanmugal was allegedly attacked by three unidentified persons at Vellar around 10.30 p.m. while he was transporting two passengers to Kovalam.

“The unidentified persons, suspected to be taxi drivers, began to hurl stones at the vehicle, following which the passengers ran away. The complainant was then assaulted and the vehicle was damaged. The driver was admitted to General Hospital with injuries on his arms and neck,” the police said.

Tension among drivers of cab aggregator services and conventional taxi drivers have led to minor scuffles in various parts of the city previously too. Besides similar situations being reported near Kovalam, a few Uber drivers were manhandled near Kazhakuttam some months ago. As many as three cars were also damaged in the attack.
