Congress holds vehicle rally

District Congress Committee (DCC) president and former MP V.S. Sivakumar said here on Saturday that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) would suffer defeat if elections to the local bodies in the State were held in a democratic manner.

He was speaking after inaugurating a vehicle rally at Vandithadam junction, organised by the Kunnnathukal mandalam committee to highlight the “anomalies” in the voters' list and delimitation of wards.

Mr. Sivakumar alleged that the LDF would use all means to win the forthcoming elections to the local bodies.

The DCC president said delimitation of wards was carried out without taking into account the number of voters or the geographical boundaries. The voters had been shifted en masse from one ward to another. No steps had been taken to rectify the anomalies despite the issue being taken up by the Leader of Opposition. The funds allocated to the local bodies had been diverted and the panchayats ruled by the CPI(M) had fared badly in implementing Central schemes, he said.

DCC member Mohandas and block panchayat president Babukutan Nair were among those who spoke.
