Alumni meet at Sainik School tomorrow

The 41st alumni reunion of the Sainik School, Kazhakuttom, will be held here on Saturday. Lt. Gen. G.M. Nair, Military Secretary of the Indian Army and an alumnus of the school, will be the chief guest at the function.

The ceremony will commence with a guard of honour for the General by young cadets. Lt. Gen. Nair will later lay a wreath at the Stupa of Remembrance, a memorial for the brave alumni of the school who gave up their lives for the country.

The events of the day include sports and games competitions involving old students and the cadets undergoing study at the school. A commemoration meeting titled ‘Guruvandanam' will be held.

As many as 645 students from the Sainik School, Kazhakuttom have joined the Indian Armed Forces as officers. Lt.Col. N.J. Nair and Captain R. Harshan who were honoured posthumously with the nation's highest peacetime gallantry award, the Ashok Chakra, figure in the list of the school's alumni who made the supreme sacrifice on the battlefield.

Prominent old students from the school include Lt. Gen.(Retd) Thomas Mathew, administrative member of the Kochi Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal, Rajeev Sadanandan, chairman, KSEB; P.C. Thomas, former MP; and actors Indrajit and Prithviraj.
