791 more to be given title deeds

Title deeds will be distributed to 791 more people in the district, Minister for Revenue Adoor Prakash has said.

Speaking after distributing title deeds to more than 400 people on Wednesday, he said 330 fishermen living in coastal areas of Karimkulam and 461 people who were rehabilitated when the fishing harbour was set up at Vizhinjam would be given title deeds.

The government had started steps to issue the documents at the earliest.

The people who were rehabilitated during the construction of the harbour had been fighting for title deeds for the past 40 years, he added

Among the beneficiaries who received the title deeds at the function held at the District Collectorate, 122 persons were from coastal areas of Neyyattinkara, and 140 persons from colonies at Neyyattinkara and Nedumangad. Title deeds were also given to 10 persons under the Chengara package.

The United Democratic Front government had so far distributed title deeds to more than 1.40 lakh people in the State under its zero landless policy. The department had started issuing 24 certificates related to land online, he said.

K. Muraleedharan, MLA, who spoke on the occasion, said the zero landless policy adopted by the government was one of the key achievements of the UDF government. V. Sashi, MLA, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, district panchayat president Ansajitha Russel and Additional District Magistrate V.R. Vinod were present.
