A 4,000-member team, drawn from various local bodies in the district, will clean up houses in Chengannur from August 25 to 30.

District panchayat president V.K. Madhu said that groups of volunteers had been formed in all local bodies in the district for the purpose.

A team of 25 to 50 members will be formed in each local body. The team will carry generators, jet sprayers, bleaching powder, chlorine tablet, masks, gloves, gum boots, wood cutters, pump sets, and shovels. Plumbers and electricians will be part of the teams.

The panchayat deputy director will decide the areas in which the teams from each panchayat will operate. The local bodies have to fund the activities through sponsorship, said Mr. Madhu. A team will be stationed at Chengannur to coordinate the activities.

The panchayat secretaries have been asked to submit the details of the damaged houses in the capital district before August 30.
