39 pilgrims go missing in Jordan

January 07, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The Valiyathura police have filed a case following a complaint lodged by the Foreigner Regional Registration Office in connection with 39 persons who allegedly went on a pilgrimage to Jordan, not returning even a month after the scheduled date of return.

According to the police, the complaint was that the 39 persons, from various places, were taken by two tour operators – Anish Fernandez and Innocent, both residents of Vettukad – to Jordan on November 29 and were scheduled to return to the city by December 6.

The group was led by a priest, who was the only person to return, and now, both Fernandez and Innocent were absconding.

The police, who registered a case on Tuesday after the complaint from the FRRO, suspect that the group could have been ferried to Jordan as labourers or as part of a job fraud but were yet to confirm this with the investigation just being launched.
