31,603 seats for Plus One in district

A total of 31,603 seats are available for Plus One in schools across the district in the new academic year.

The district offers 12,779 seats in government schools in Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams. In the aided sector, 7,385 seats are available in the merit category. This brings the total number of merit seats to 20,164 — 11,091 in Science, 4,814 in Commerce, and 4,259 in Humanities.

Management quota

There are 2,865 seats up for grabs in the management quota. As many as 1,440 seats are available in the community quota. The intake in the unaided sector is 6,553. This brings the total number of non-merit seats to 10,858 — 7,069 in Science, 1,994 in Commerce, and 1,795 in Humanities.

There are 581 seats in the Sports quota (329 in Science, 131 in Commerce, and 121 in Humanities) for which admission is held separately under the single-window system.

Of the total 31,603 seats — 18,489 seats are in the Science stream, 6,939 in Commerce, and 6,175 in Humanities.

The seats available under government and aided (merit) quota will be filled through the single-window system.

The district had achieved a pass percentage of 97.96 in the SSLC examinations.

Of the 35,577 students who appeared, 34,851 became eligible for higher studies.

Other avenues

Seats will be available in the vocational higher secondary stream too.

Some students will take admissions to polytechnics and industrial training institutes too.

The intake for a Plus One batch is 50, but a decision on increase in seats, as was done last year, will be taken only after the elections.

Increase in seats

Last year, the government had sanctioned a 20% increase in Plus One seats in all government and aided higher secondary schools. It then gave the nod for a further 10% increase in Plus One seats in all government and aided higher secondary schools in six northern districts of Malappuram, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Kannur, Wayanad and Kasaragod.

At present, of the 3,61,763 Plus One seats available in the State, 2,38,844 are available under the single-window system. Last year, there were 2,94,942 seats available under it.
