2.51 cr. voters in Kerala State


As many as 2,51,08,535 voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the local government elections to be held in two phases on November 2 and 5.

Malappuram has the highest number of voters, 29,05,103, and Wayanad, the lowest, 5,73,513. Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur follow with 26,02,589 and 24,36,213 voters respectively. Idukki and Kasaragod districts have only less than 10 lakh voters. Idukki has 8,49,184 and Kasaragod 9,51,703 voters.

There are 1,30,50,163 women and 1,20,58,372 men voters in the State. The number of women voters is high in all districts.


The State Election Commission has declared a holiday for employees of private organisations so that they could cast their votes in the local government elections being held on November 2 and 5.

The commission has asked labour commissioners to give directions to employers to make necessary arrangements so that the employees could cast their votes without any hitch.

Nod sought

Aided school teachers who have been deployed on polling duty have been told not to function as agents of candidates.

Since aided school teachers are allowed to contest the elections, many of them have sought the commission’s permission to function as agents of candidates. It is in this context that the clarification has been issued.
