17 in the fray in Thiruvananthapuram

Nominations of dummy candidates of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Left Democratic Front and an Independent candidate were rejected after scrutiny on Friday, leaving 17 candidates in the fray in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency and 21 in Attingal. Congress and the BSP had no dummy candidates.

A total of 20 persons had filed their nominations in the Thiruvnanthapuram Lok Sabha constituency and 23 in Attingal.

April 8 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations, after which the final list of candidates will emerge.

Candidates whose nominations have been accepted include C. Divakaran of CPI, Shashi Tharoor of Congress, Kummanam Rajasekharan of BJP, Kiran Kumar S.K. of BSP, Mini S. of SUCI in Thiruvananthapuram and A. Sampath of CPI(M), Adoor Prakash of Congress, Shobha Surendran of BJP, and Vipin Lal L.A. of BSP.
