Various organizations, education institutions, celebrate International Day of Yoga

Dinakar Babu, president of the zilla panchayat, said on Friday that yoga should be propagated and taught to people without changing its original format.

He was speaking after inaugurating the International Day of Yoga celebrations organised by the district administration, Departments of AYUSH, Public Instruction, Youth Empowerment and Sports, and other organizations at the District Indoor Stadium, here.

Mr. Babu said that it was being taught in schools as part of physical education in the State. Along with yoga, people should also be given information about proper consumption of food, he said.

Nalini P. Rao, president of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, and others were present.

Meanwhile, inaugurating the celebrations organised by the BJP, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, said that the Union government had taken steps to popularise yoga in the world.

This was testified by the celebration of International Day of Yoga, he said. BJP leaders and municipal councillors were present.

At the programme organised at Rajangana by Paryaya Palimar Mutt, Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Swami Vivekananada Vijanana Kendra and other organisations, Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Palimar Mutt said people should practise yoga daily.


Students, staff, and faculty members of the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) took part in the celebrations at Marena Indoor Sports Complex in Manipal.

The programme started with yoga demonstration as per the UGC protocol.

Narayana Sabhahit, Registrar, MAHE, spoke on how yoga improved the quality of life and worked as a preventive for various life style disorders and also a means to delay aging.

Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) celebrated the day at Bantakal.
