Women troupes to perform Yakshagana at Ujire from today

Women will perform Yakshagana for seven consecutive days on the premises of Janardhana Temple at Ujire from May 18. Organised by Kuriya Vitala Shastri Yakshagana Foundation, Ujire, seven troupes of women will present different shows. The Yakshagana ‘sapthaha’ will begin with a performance by artistes of Yakshaaradhana Kala Kendra of Mangaluru. They will present the Narakasura Moksha episode for two hours from 6 p.m. Later, artistes of Bala Yaksha Koota of Kadri will stage Chakravyuha prasanga (episode) for two hours from 8 p.m. The other prasangas lined up are Satwa Pareekshe by Sarayu Mahila Yaksha Vrunda, Kodical, on May 19 and Vishnu Leele by Siddi Vinayaka Mahila Yakshagana Mandali of Ganeshpura on the same day.

Artistes of Kumara Samskritika Prathisthana of Haluvalli will perform Veera Babruvahana and Pachalingeshwara Yakshagana Sangha, Bayar, will present Sati Dakshyayini shows on May 20. There will be Dakshadhwara by children of Durga Makkala Mela, Kateel, on May 21 followed by Shanmukha Vijaya by artistes of Yaksha Degula, Kantavara, on the same day.

Mahashura Bhoumasura by Sharadamba Mahila Yakshagana Sangha, Bolanthuru; Sudarshana Garva Bhanga by Navagiri Yakshagana Mandali, Hosabettu and Rani Shashiprabhe by Yakshadeva Mitra Kala Mandali, Beluvai will be on May 22.

On May 23, there will be Sudhanwarjuna by Sanatana Yakshalaya, Mangaluru, followed by Mahishamardini by Mahaganapathi Mahila Yakshagana Sangha of Katipalla.

Mahila Yakha Koota of Kadri will stage Anabhishikta Dore and Gundi Laxminarayana Mahila Yakshagana Sangha of Mundaje will present Sri Krishna Leele Kamsa Vadhe on May 24.

There will be a special attraction on May 24, when five women bhagawathas will present ‘Yaksha Gana Vaibhava’ from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Yakshagana performers Sumangala Ratnakar of Yaksharadhana Kala Kendra, Mangaluru, and Poornima Yatish Rai of Mahaganapthi Mahila Yakshagana Sangha, Katipalla, will be felicitated on Monday and Saturday, respectively.
