Woman, daughter arrested over snake-catcher's murder

The city police have arrested on charges of murder the wife and daughter of 46-year-old snake catcher, K. Ashok, who had been missing from his house in Moodbidri since December 2010.

Ashok, who worked as the security guard at MLA Abhayachandra Jain's house, was much sought after person for catching snakes in Moodbidri.

His wife Chandravati (41) had reported on December 7, 2010 that her husband did not return home after he went away with two persons.

The police suspected Chandravati and her daughter Ashwini (22). Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh told presspersons on Friday that Chandravati and Ashwini reportedly confessed to have bludgeoned Ashok on December 7, 2010 and later burnt the body. Some portion of the ashes was dumped in the backyard of the house while some remains were dumped near Someshwar Beach, Mr. Singh said.
