We will reconsider water tariff hike, says Congress

Party assures electorate of forming ward committees

The Congress on Wednesday promised to take a re-look into the water tariff hike, form ward committees, build a railway under-bridge at Mahakalipadpu, construct a four-lane road along the Netravati bank from Kannur to Old Port and work for the overall development of the city if re-elected in the November 12 elections to Mangaluru City Corporation council.

The manifesto for corporation polls released by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao urges the electorate to re-elect the Congress for a clean and beautiful Mangaluru. The poll promises are divided broadly under 18 heads and one summary of promises.

24x7 water supply

Besides promising re-look into water tariff hike, the Congress said it would provide 24x7 water supply to all wards under ADB-2 tranche and look for sea water desalination plant. It would also improve the underground sewage network besides ensuring flow of sewage in storm-water drains.

The party spoke elaborately on improving the road and footpath infrastructure in the core city area besides promising to improve Kannur-Kannagudde-Kulashekara Road, Bondel-Vamanjoor Road, Jeppinamogaru-Bajal-Padil Road, roads in Old Bunder, Yeyyadi-Shaktinagara Road, and six-laning of Surathkal-Kana-MRPL Road.

It reiterated resolve to construct satellite bus terminal near Pump Well and construct a city bus terminal at Mallikatte and State Bank and improve Surathakl bus stand. Solid waste management also found a mention, with the Congress promising scientific management of waste.

The party also promised to ensure speedy completion of works on market complexes at Kudroli, Surathkal, and Kankanady; new market at Urvastore and Katpalla; re-development of Central Market and improving Bunder fish market.

A four-lane road would be built from Kannur to Netravati Bridge and from Netravati Bridge to Old Port along the Netravati bank. Boating facility would be provided at Kulur backwater.

The Congress said it was committed to implementing e-administration and administrative reforms in the corporation. Besides forming ward committees, regular grievance redressal meetings at ward levels would be conducted.
