There is uncertainty over the possible criminal action against three former ministers for alleged viewing of pornographic content on their cell phones in the legislative Assembly. But it's not so in the case of persons doing so in public places.
A week ago, the city's Barke police arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly viewing a pornographic video on his cellphone in a public place here. According to the police, 20-year-old Praveen Kumar was seen seeing a video along with his friend near Jarandaya temple in Bolur on January 30. Kumar's friend ran away seeing the police sub-inspector walking towards them. Kumar reportedly told police he had downloaded pornographic video on his mobile phone.
The police have booked Kumar for the offence of doing an obscene act in a public place, which is punishable under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code. A person found guilty under Section 294 will be punishable for a term that may extend to six months.
The police have seized the mobile phone and the imbedded microchip. Kumar has been released on bail after he was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.
