Using paintings, rangolis to create awareness

Akash A., a first-year Bachelor of Visual Art student from Mahalasa College of Visual Art, drew a painting showing a man raising his right index finger to vote and turning away money with his left hand.

His classmate had the painting of the woman whose mouth has a red X on the money on her mouth

These two were among the 60 paintings on voting awareness displayed by the college students at the Town Hall on Thursday.

The exhibition was part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme of the district administration.

As many as 10 women took part in a rangoli display on voting awareness.

There was also display of 20 cartoons on voting awareness by the Dakshina Kannada Cartoonists’ Association.

Speaking at the function, Zilla Panchayat Chief Exective Officer R. Selvamani called upon audience to encourage their neighbours to vote on April 18.

“We have to achieve 100% turnout this time,” he said.
