Two feared drowned in Phalguni

Two persons are feared drowned in the Phalguni on Tuesday afternoon after they were caught in the swirls, in Kavoor police limits.

The police gave the names of the deceased as Tony Tavares (28) who was an autorickshaw driver and was also into catering, and Ramesh (30), who was also into catering.

The two along with Deepak had been to the river near Moodushedde. They were residents of Tharigudde, Neermarga and Pachchanady respectively.

Since Deepak did not know swimming, he remained on the banks of the river while Tony and Ramesh ventured to swim. As they were caught in the swirl and disappeared, Deepak raised an alert and informed the police as well as Fire and Emergency Service Department.

Arrested

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Monday arrested two persons on charges of plotting the murder of a prominent politician from Vamanjoor. Police gave the names of the accused as Pavanraj Shetty (18), son of late Rohidas Shetty, resident of Vamanjoor and T.M. Kumar alias Soorya Kumar alias Suri (34), son of late Muttuswamy, resident of Jeppinamogaru.

The police claimed that Pavanraj intended to avenge the murder of his father, Rohidas Shetty alias Vamanjoor Rohi, who had been a rowdy-sheeter. Rohidas was murdered in 2009.

Pilot collapses, dies

A pilot, said to be working for Air India, died of cardiac arrest during his evening walk on Monday in Pandeshwar police limits.

The police gave his name as D.S. Jain (60), a resident of Delhi. Mr. Jain was said to have returned after flying the Dubai-Mangaluru flight on Monday evening and came to meet a friend in hotel. The two then went for a stroll at Nehru Maidan where Mr. Jain collapsed. He was declared brought dead at a nearby hospital, the police added.
