Five-member panel to be set up later by Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Sode Mutt

The Sode Mutt, which is in charge of the Shiroor Mutt, has appointed two persons to look after the daily maintenance of the Shiroor Mutt here in Udupi and in Shiroor.

Sources here said that the Sode Mutt has appointed Vittal Bhat to oversee the maintenance of the Shiroor Mutt here in Udupi, while it has appointed Subrahmanya Bhat to look after ‘moola mutt’ in Shiroor Village, about 22 km from here.

A high-level five-member committee would be appointed by Vishwavallabha Tirtha Swami of Sode Mutt, when he returns to Udupi from Bengaluru on July 27, to look after the management of administrative and related matters of the Shiroor Mutt.

Sources said that all the mutts of the Ashta Mutts maintained accounts books.

Exponent of Dwaita philosophy, Sri Madhwacharya had grouped the eight mutts or ‘Ashta Mutts’ of Udupi into four pairs called the Dwandwa Mutt system. The Sode Mutt and Shiroor Mutt are pair mutts.

Since Lakshmivara Tirtha Swami of Shiroor Mutt passed away on July 19 without appointing a junior successor, the management of the Shiroor Mutt had been taken over by the Sode Mutt.

This will continue till the Sode seer appoints a new seer to the Shiroor Mutt, which is expected only after September 29, after the completion of Ashada month and Chaturmasya period.
