‘Track down murder culprits,’ demand Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike

M.G. Hegde, chief spokesperson, blamed the interference of an ‘elected representative’ for the delayed investigation.

Members of the Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike staged a protest on Monday against the alleged laxity of the city police in apprehending the culprits behind the death of a 70-year-old woman, in Shaktinagar Karmika Colony, recently.

According to the protesters, on November 12, Bhavani (70), a cashew factory worker, was robbed off her earrings and her gold chain by two men. In the process, Bhavani was reportedly pushed down, and she succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.

‘Atmosphere of fear’

Yogish Kumar Jeppu, president of the vedike, said though it has been 20 days since the incident, no one has been arrested so far. “Because of incidents like these against women, there is an atmosphere of fear in the city,” he said.

M.G. Hegde, chief spokesperson, blamed the interference of an ‘elected representative’ for the delayed investigation.

The organisation warned of district-wide protests if action was not taken immediately.

However, the police denied there was any pressure on them.

“We have filed charges of robbery and murder, and are investigating the leads. There were no eyewitnesses so we can only speculate about the number of people behind the incident,” police said.
